Our Sustainable Land Use/Food Choices Team is in formation.  In advance of that team’s formal debut, the member organizations (listed below) have collaborated to craft this Climate-Friendly Food Choices Statement.  Enjoy!

Climate Friendly Food Choices

Food Choices are extremely important for anyone who wants to take climate change action because:

  • Food Choices have a profound effect on greenhouse gas emissions (one study shows as much as 51%).
  • Food Choices are amongst the easiest changes that make a huge difference—the biggest bang for our individual buck

While diet can be a complicated and controversial subject (see Resources below), there are three primary ways that we can impact climate:

  • Reduce or Eliminate meat and dairy; eat more fruits & veggies
  • Eat Locally Grown & Seasonal
  • Eat Organic (or at least synthetic nitrogen fertilizer free, pesticide free)

Within our membership, there are several organizations that can provide information and/or practical assistance with incorporating these Climate Friendly Food Choices into a healthy lifestyle.
